How to keep your todder entertained without the screen time
Hello Parents!
Are you looking for some activities to keep your little one entertained? In this internet age, most of our kids rely on internet when they are bored. There has a lot of things to do in the internet, I cannot argue with that. It has games and videos for kids that you can easily download/access on cellphones and Ipad.
Is it possible to keep our kids entertained without the access on the internet? YES! We, millenials grew up without even knowing about Youtube and other online games. So why don't we let our own kids experience the kind of childhood that we have?
These are my personal tips:
Go outside/Go to park
We are always at home with our kids and going outside is a nice thing to do for a change. Walk with your toddler to a park. Let him play and run around. Your kid can fly a kite or ride his bike. This will help him discover and explore new things outside.
Tip: Bring a stroller. Our kids might be too tired to walk home from the park. Snacks and drinks is a must too. You can have a little picnic at the park with your little one.
Build a fort or indoor tent
Kids not in the mood to go outside? Then take outside in the inside. (Mind the pun hehe)
Build a fort with your kids using blankets and set up a cushion and pillows inside. Me and my son usually do this when it's rainy day. He finds it cozy and we pretend camping.
You can also purchase an indoor tent. I bought mine from shopee.
Art day
Get crafty. This will help your kid to showcase his creative ideas through art. Let your kid lie around the floor with crayons, paint and paper. Let him paint whatever comes to his mind. Sometimes I let my son draw on walls too. Most crayons can be easily cleaned by soap and water. What's important is our kids are having fun. Take pictures of their art and you can use it as a wall decor.
Tip: Use a kid-friendly watercolor

Wash toys together
This is my son's favorite activity. He likes to play and swim in the water especially if his toys are floating around with him too. Does your child enjoys water related activities? Let his bath time took a longer than the usual and use this time to wash and clean his toys.
Note: Don't let your kid play in the water without supervision.
Shadow play
You can do this even in daytime. Use your phone's flashlight and keep your room in dim. Play or dance with the shadow with your kid. Experiment with shadows and make a shadow art, puppets and animals.
Face painting
You can include this on your art day. Let your little one be imaginative and paint your or his face. This is a good bonding moment. Our child remembers us being involved with them during toddler years, let's give them time to be a child and set aside our errands for awhile.
Dance/Freeze dance
Do you remember when you attended a birthday party when you're a child and join lots of games and win a candy as a prize? Well, you can have your kid experience that too. Doesn't have to wait until you're invited to a party, you can organize a party yourself without occassion. Have a dance party and instead of a candy, give him his favorite snack as a prize.
Read books
Read books together. Your toddler may not look like they're listening but believe me, they do.
Tip: Kids likes books with pictures. Ask questions about the story. You'll be surprised how they remember some details of the story you read.
Outdoor Camping
If you have a space to set-up a tent outside, this can be a good activity for you and your child. You can lie down on the tent or blanket, and start stargazing with your kids. It is a fun way to enjoy the night sky and this might inspire and encourage your child to explore his love for science.
Spending time with our kids is very important. As parents, we should make ourselves involve and let out our inner child once in awhile. By this, we are strengthening our bonds with them and it can build a positive behavior to our child. Let us be our child's first friend. Kids grow up so fast, be present and be there for them while you can.
